Overview

Dr. Paresi performs facial fat grafting to restore a youthful appearance by replacing the volume that has been lost from aging or other factors. Many Chicagoland patients find that a fat transfer to the cheeks and temples will rejuvenate their whole face. Facial fat grafting, like dermal fillers, treats wrinkles and folds in the face but a fat transfer has no risk of side effects since the patient's own fat is being used. A facial fat graft also requires less maintenance than a dermal filler, like Juvéderm or Voluma. During the consultation, Dr. Paresi of Dr. Robert J Paresi, Jr. MD in Chicago will check the patient to see if there is an adequate amount of fat on the body to transfer to the face and also the elasticity of the patient's skin. Patients with a low skin elasticity may need to include a facial lift with their facial fat transfer for their best results.

Surgical Technique

During the consultation, Dr. Paresi will create a unique treatment plan to achieve the best results that meet each patient’s needs. During surgery, the plastic surgeon removes fat by liposuction from selected areas of the body, processes the fat, and then injects the purified donor fat cells into the areas of the face. The procedure is designed to augment the mid-face or cheek bones so that it appears lifted and fuller. Dr. Paresi Plastic Surgery in Chicago uses the most innovative techniques in handling fat graft. The plastic surgeon will inject small amounts of purified fat into different areas of the face at various depths to obtain the highest permanent absorption rate.

Top-notch! - I had a lower blepharoplasty and fat transfer in February 2021. I could not be happier with the results and with my decision in choosing Dr. Paresi. From calling to schedule the consultation, to the follow up appointments, everything has been top notch. Dr. Paresi and his staff take the time to explain every detail about the procedure, recovery time, what to expect and even the cost. There were no “hidden” fees, or surprises. During the procedure, I was under local anesthesia. Dr. Paresi and his staff demonstrated superb bedside manner. He explained the procedure throughly as he was working and kept any anxiety I might have had at a zero. My results reflect a skilled doctor. I could not be more pleased.

During the Surgery

Facial fat grafting with liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at an accredited surgery center. The amount of time needed for liposuction and facial fat grafting will vary according to several factors, including the amount of fat being removed, the technique used, and the size of the area being treated. The fat is placed into the face through small imperceptible incisions, which results in minimal scarring. The procedure can be performed with other procedures, such as a facelift, necklift, or blepharoplasty. Common areas for donor fat include the abdomen, hips and flanks.

About Us
How Long Will It Take?

The procedure time will vary, depending on how many areas are being treated as well as the volume of fat being removed and injected. Facial fat grafting alone usually takes one hour.

What Type of Anesthesia?

Depending on the patient’s health and anxiety tolerance, facial fat grafting may be performed under local anesthesia and sedation.  When combined with other procedures, it is often performed as an outpatient setting in a surgery under general anesthesia.

Combination Surgery?

Facial fat grafting is often combined with other facial procedures such as a facelift, necklift, blepharoplasty, or browlift. There is a limit to how many procedures can be done safely as it relates to surgical recovery, and the amount of time the surgery takes.

Return to Work?

Each patient’s recovery time is different, and depends on how many procedures are performed at the same time. The average return to work for facial fat grafting alone is less than a week.
