Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States and worldwide. It is often under local, or tumescent anesthesia, with the patient awake. An essential part of performing liposuction under local anesthesia is pretunneling. Pretunneling is a technique in which the power-assisted liposuction (PAL) machine (MicroAire) is used to break up the fat and spread the tumescent solution which contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and epinephrine, a vasoconstrictor. The vibration of the PAL machine also masks the pain associated with the procedure. All of these factors lead to a better patient experience for awake liposuction. The videos demonstrate the technique and the lack of pain experienced by the patient.
Why pretunneling is important for a good awake liposuction experience?
